William Rattle Plum papers, 1863-1919.

Correspondence, certificates, photocopies, news clippings, military cipher notebooks and sundry other papers composed by Colonel William R. Plum of Lombard (Ill.), much of it during the Civil War. Letterpress copies of correspondence (389 p., 1863 Sept. 4-1864 March 23) by Captain William G. Fuller, Assistant Superintendent of Military Telegraph, Department of Tennessee; 7 military telegraph cipher notebooks used by Fuller and William Rattle Plum; sundry notes (225 p.) written and compiled by Plum; and various other manuscript items (35 items, 1864-1919). Colonel Plum helped to develop the use of the telegraph during the Civil War of the United States.
